Tuckahoe Playground

Adjacent to the East Falls Church Metro Station in northern virginia, there was a playground of mythic proportions.  The structure itself was made of reclaimed materials; rail road ties, leftover telephone poles and mack truck tires.  The sum total of the effect when they were joined in this configuration was that of a Pirates Fort deep within a Neverland that could never be penetrated by hostile forces.  Pure bliss to my siblings and a small armada of children that grew up playing there.

I thank the Arlington County Parks and recreation office profusely for donating these plans.

    1. A message from Karl Kras- Architect

  1. I was introduced to the Lower Topanga Rodeo Grounds while taking a Permaculture Design Course under the direction of Larry Santoyo. I lead a team of students that developed the Master Plan for the Rodeo Grounds based on Permaculture and green design practices. The final product is an interesting balance of new and existing structures with wetland restoration – a healthy balance.
