In 2000, California State Parks acquired a parcel of Lower Topanga Canyon, affectionately known as the Rodeo Grounds, with the idea of redeveloping the land and opening it to the public. Six years later, the agency has neither the fiscal resources nor the manpower to execute this plan, and the once lush and beautiful property sits neglected, overgrown and abandoned. The area boasts a rich cultural history and a thriving biodiversity as a riparian corridor and a microclimate. State Parks’ fiscal challenges present the larger community with the perfect opportunity to shape the future of this unique space.
